State Theatre, Bay City, MI: Preservation research and historic decoration restoration

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”transparent” down=”5″][vc_column_text]John Canning & Co. acted as a consultant and specialty contractor for the decoration restoration at the State Theatre of Bay City, MI. The theatre was first built in 1908 as one of the many vaudeville and burlesque homes in Bay City. It was then redesigned in 1930 to resemble a Mayan pyramid by architect Charles Howard Crane. ┬áJohn Canning & Co. performed an interior historic paint and plaster investigation. After mechanically removing layers of paint from several discrete locations, Canning was able to reveal the theaters original earthy sandstone color. Canning then performed decorative paint restoration on the entire theatre to match the original sandstone effect. This included all plaster wall surfaces in the theatre, promenade, stairs, and concession lobby. Finishing treatments were also applied.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”transparent” down=”5″][vc_column_text]Location: Bay City, MI
