SCOPE

John Canning & Co. was chosen to do a complete restoration of the Connecticut Old State House in Hartford to include the House Chamber, Senate Chamber, and Supreme Court rooms. This restoration included the furniture repair and refinishing of legislative desks and chairs, as well as the gilding of exterior statues.

There were 40 Pottier & Stymus oak and walnut desks, and 50 pieces of miscellaneous historic wood trim in total. John Canning & Co. performed a variety of repairs to the fretwork, spindles, pencil boxes, and the top gallery where all joints were glued, holes filled and patched, missing elements replicated, and necessary seats and backs were re-caned
