The goal of the project was to reinstate the original ornamental painted and gilded finishes using similar techniques and materials as originally used. Over time, the finishes had tarnished, been painted over, and were poorly repaired using incompatible materials.
Restoration of the finishes included gilding at ornamental features throughout the Green Room and Herbst Theatre as well as reinstatement of stenciling. Various glazes, discovered through a paint analysis, were also reinstated and included a stippled finish at the ceilings and walls. The restoration followed specifications prepared by the original architect, Arthur Brown.
