John Canning & Co. preserved the decorative and architectural paint and woodwork of this collegiate gothic library.

PROJECT DETAILS

Yale Sterling Memorial Library at Yale University was built in 1930 and designed by James Gamble Rogers. All aspects of the finishes and building materials were designed by Gamble Rogers to appear aged. This included the decoration on the ceiling and stone work.

As part of a comprehensive upgrade to the building systems in Manuscripts & Archives, the historic finishes were to be conserved and restored. John Canning & Co., consulted on the preservation of these finishes, performing analysis on the historic paint and providing conservation cleaning methods for the decoratively painted plaster, stone, and historic wood work. After the consultation phase, the John Canning & Co., team went on to execute the preservation of decorative and architectural paint and woodwork.
